Gastroenterology Fellowship
The Gastroenterology Fellowship at The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) is a three-year, fully accredited program by the United States Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our program consists of nine fellows and several board-certified faculty. This is one of Brooklyn’s oldest fully ACGME-accredited gastroenterology (GI) fellowship programs. Our program received its first accreditation on July 1, 1987, and we marked our 36th anniversary in July 2023.
The main goal of the program is to train highly qualified, competent and caring gastroenterologists. This program provides excellent teaching in all clinical and endoscopic aspects of gastroenterology, hepatology and advanced endoscopy.
The fellows have regular didactic core lectures, conferences in GI pathology, GI radiology, journal clubs, clinical case conferences, research conferences, quality improvement meetings, morbidity and mortality conferences, board review, clinical guideline review, and GI grand rounds. The faculty and fellows are actively involved in multiple clinical research projects and regularly publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals. The fellows also routinely attend and present at national and international meetings including the American College of Gastroenterology, Digestive Disease Week, New York Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
The Brooklyn Hospital Center is the sponsoring hospital of the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program and has academic affiliation with Mount Sinai Medical Center. Other participating hospitals include St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, NYC Health + Hospital/Queens in Queens and Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. As a result, the fellows are exposed to a diverse patient population and have the opportunity to work with key clinical faculty from the four participating institutions. The program offers excellent endoscopic training with multiple attendings at all sites. Our fellowship program aims to train fellows to become outstanding clinical and academic gastroenterologists.
