Michael Scicchitano, PT, MBA
Sr. Director of Nursing, Quality & Regulatory Affairs
Nursing regulatory affairs focuses on compliance with the laws and regulations developed to guide nursing practice to protect public health and safety in the administration of care. The hospital environment is one which is regulated by many government agencies. These agencies are actively involved in introducing, amending and updating laws and regulations regarding the dispensation of hospital services, which includes, among others, nursing care, pharmacy and blood bank. As such, TBHC continuously monitors its operations to ensure that there are strict compliance and adaptations to the ever-changing requirements recommended by the various regulatory bodies. The regulatory staff of TBHC negotiates the interactions of the regulators and the hospital work environment to ensure that good outcomes are afforded to its customers and to protect against unwanted outcomes. TBHC uses a proactive approach to identify and adhere to up-to-date recommendations and regulations. The regulatory actions at TBHC includes The Joint Commission (TJC) Survey/Visits, TJC Corrective Action Plan, TJC Mock Survey, New York State Department of Health staffing, Leapfrog Survey, SAMSHA/OASAS submissions and reaccreditations, and recertification for Bariatric and Stroke programs, among others.
