The Covid mask requirement lifted at TBHC starting May 1
In response to the state and federal government relaxation of mask mandates, and the decline in active Covid cases, masks will no longer be required for TBHC staff, patients or visitors in the hospital or at any of the ambulatory locations. Anyone choosing to still wear a mask is, of course, welcome to do so.
New Security Measures
Because the safety of patients, visitors and staff is our priority, we have implemented a high-tech weapons detection system at the Emergency Department entrance and in the main lobby. These sophisticated systems are not metal detectors and will not set off alarms for those who have medical devices such as pacemakers, metal rods and clips.

The Brooklyn Hospital Center Again Earns Primary Stroke Center Designation by NYSDOH
On January 12, 2023, The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) was re-designated by New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) as a Primary Stroke Center in the New York State Stroke Services Program. Previously, TBHC received a NYS designation as a Primary Stroke Center in 2007. However, a new state law implemented in March 2018 required all hospitals with a NYS Stroke Center to reapply. This time around, institutions were required to receive a disease specific certification from a NYS-approved certifying organization.
DOUBLE-Ribbon Opening for The Brooklyn Hospital Center Emergency Room and Cancer Center Completions
On October 3, The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) hosted a double-ribbon ceremony for two landmark achievements: the completion of a multi-year, multi-million dollar Emergency Room Renovation and the opening of The Brooklyn Cancer Center (TBCC), a partnership between New York Cancer & Blood Specialists (NYCBS), one of the leading oncology practices in the nation and TBHC.
