TBHC Places ‘Garden of Heroes’ in Fort Greene Park to Honor Employees

In partnership with the Fort Greene Park Conservancy and the New York City Parks Department, The Brooklyn Hospital Center has created a Garden of Heroes, placing a bench and six newly planted limber pine trees in honor of each of the hospital employees who passed away during the coronavirus spring 2020 surge. These young trees, purposefully placed to overlook the hospital grounds, join the elder pines that have been in the park since the 1800s, and will grow to over 50 feet tall in maturity. The bench is inscribed with the names of the deceased employees to commemorate their service, commitment and dedication.

The Garden of Heroes is located by the southwest entrance to the park. The bench, past the steps on the right, is encircled by the six evergreens. It is open to everyone in the community to take a seat, breathe the fresh air, admire the view and take a moment to remember those who lost their lives in service of our community.
